Comment:

 I think I mostly agree with what chris says here regarding getZoom() and
 getResolution(). getZoom() is an established part of our API and should be
 preserved.

 The idea of removing entirely the idea of zoom levels is something that
 jrf has been requesting for ages and just last week, paul spencer was
 mentioning how it would be nice to have it as well.

 If we were to implement that, then perhaps getResolution() could be
 replaced by simply map.resolution.... if that is important.

 I think, however, that the task of removing zoom levels from openlayers is
 a task for another day and another ticket.

 Since we've already addressed (err.. are still addressing) the baselayer
 switching problem with #990, I think we should mark this as duplicate. I'm
 sure another ticket exists somewhere for the "get rid of zoom levels"
 issue, but I guess if it doesn't, then it ought to be created.

 Whoever reads this, if you agree, can you please mark as duplicate and
 file it under 2.5? Thanks
