 Thanks Bart for the layerOptions hint. What I don't know is how to set the
 transparency of the layers without patching WMC/v1.js. Would you have a
 suggestion for that?

 The reason for this ticket and http://trac.openlayers.org/ticket/1515 is
 that I believe that the default behaviour of a WMC should be sound and
 logical; a wmc should by default show all its layers at the same time (so
 they must be transparent) and in the correct bounding box and projection,
 without needing to add explicit options.
